O’s Notes: Bob Washut is a highly regarded musician, composer and arranger. He concluded his career of 38 years as professor of jazz studies at the University of Northern Iowa School of Music while simultaneously releasing“Journey to Knowhere. Washut composed the music for a dodectet (12-piece band). He elected to record the session in Colorado and used musicians that he was less familiar with to help him focus. “Thick Plot” is our favorite of the 8 selections. Bob will undoubtedly be missed at UNI but this recording suggests he’s still got a lot of life to live!
