O’s Notes: Andrea Brachfeld is a flutist/composer who assembles a fine set of musicians for Lady of The Island. Wallace Roney (t) explodes on “Eye of The Hurricane” and there are notable contributions from Wycliffe Gordon (tb), Todd Bashore (sax) and co producer Bill O’Connell (p) throughout the set. We liked the spirited drive on “Dead Ahead” and “Birdlike” as well. Brachfeld’s incorporation of flute into this modern jazz mix is perfect as she leads without dominating the stage resulting in a very balanced performance.
