O’s Notes: Spanish native, tenor saxophonist, composer, producer and bandleader Berta Moreno started her career in Europe before moving to New York. She has performed as a sideman on many albums and is well regarded as a top jazz prospect.“Little Steps“is her debut recording as a leader. She surrounds herself with great talent including Steve Wilson (alto sax), Troy Roberts (tenor and soprano sax), Manuel Valera (p) and David Hardy (d). They perform eight original tunes, each with unique flavors. Valera stretches out on several selections notably “Lost and Found” and “Option A” balancing a definitive sax attack. We also enjoyed “Mind The Gap” and “J.G. Power”.
