O’s Notes: Rufus (b) leads his trio with Fritz Pauer (p) and John Hollenbeck (d). He picks up his bow to open “Ode To Ray”, a swinger dedicated to the late bassist Ray Brown, his mentor. Reid wrote all of these tunes except the classic “Cherokee”, which all three musicians solo on with high intensity. The slowed down a bit for “The Peaceful Flame”, a piece dedicated to the less fortunate in the world. This was a cool set recorded live at Porgy & Bess in Vienna, Austria 2006.
