O’s Notes: Trombonist, composer Doug Beavers follows Sol (78) with Luna, sparked by the mystery of our moon. The recording is split into two segments, the first is Luna Suite, performed by a nonet and recorded in Spain on the Mediterranean Sea. “Tidal” and “Multicolores” featuring vocalist Jeremy Bosch stand out. Phase II was recorded in Jersey City where the frantic NYC crept into the sound. “Flor de Lis” with the triple threat of trombonists, Conrad Herzig, Francisco Torres, and Max Siegel, is notable along with the finale, “Sands of Time” featuring Joe Locke (vibes) and vocalist Ada Dyer.
