O’s Notes: The Nels Cline Singers are Scott Amendola (d, perc), Trevor Dunn (b) and Nels Cline (g, effects, voice). The music is primarily adventurous instrumental fusion with guest artists invited to add color. We liked the slow pulse of “Red Before Orange” and the relaxing “Companion Piece”. They are in stark contrast to “Hairy Mother” with its rather galactic feel and generous use of electronics. In between are several fusion tracks notably “Canales’Cabeza”. It turns out that the spacey tunes dominate the set.
