O’s Notes: Composer/arranger, Vente takes us through eleven songs with many different characters all underscored with the power of a brassy large ensemble. They play tradition big band on “Chicago” featuring singer Anna Dawson, inject a little reggae on “Burn Your Buns”, mellow out Miles’ “Four” and visit Brazil with “Girl from Ipanema”. Vocalist Eldee Young makes a notable contribution scatting on “Bye Bye Blackbird” and telling the funny story of “Fat Woman Blues”. It’s all good!
