O’s Notes: Drummer Mela partners with Anat Cohen (ts), Lionel Loueke (g) George Garzone (ts), Joe Lovano (ts) and others in various combinations but generally with bassist Peter Slavov. Francisco and Peter anchor each of the tunes with a solid bottom that gives listeners something to latch on to and allows the brass to take off freely. “John Ramsay” is a prime example. Pianist Leo Genovese also shines on “Obayoko” and a couple of others.
