O’s Notes: Puerto Rican saxophonist Roy McGrath leads a percussion-rich octet over eight festive selections including four originals. Menjunje is an elixir created by the elders in Puerto Rico to heal many ailments. The formula is based on what’s available in the cupboard. Here, menjunje is improvised Latin music (Plena and Bomba) to heal the soul! We enjoyed “Crembé Na’ Má”, “Groove 4”, and “Antonia” in a balanced set.
