O’s Notes: Nortonk is a chordless quartet featuring Thomas Killackey (t), Gideon Forbes (a-sax), Stephen Pale (b) and Steven Cramer (d). They perform six free flowing, original compositions for their debut recording. The beats are syncopated, brassy, and contemporary. Cramer does a fine job following Forbes on “Duuzh”. Forbes’ sax and Killackey’s trumpet are pleading with each other on “Glados” before a peaceful reconciliation of sorts. We also enjoyed Killackey on “Quat”.
