O’s Notes: The trio, Daniel Erdmann (t-sax), Vincent Courtois (cello), and Robin Fincker (t-sax, cl) has performed together for over thirteen years, normalizing a rather unusual configuration. Nothing Else has sixteen selections spread designed to be listened to in separate parts. The music is dark and somewhat distant and even melancholic on “Budapest”. We liked the dueling strings and horns on “Gronigen”, and the racy “Ulm”. We took an intermission after Part 1. The second half is a bit more uplifting but just as abstract, provocative, and spirited.
