O’s Notes: Baltimore based composer and pianist Lafayette Gilchrist continues to evolve with Now, his latest release. He uses an intimate, trio format with bassist Herman Bernie and Eric Kennedy on drums. It’s a double album containing 16 original selections. We enjoyed most of them, notably “Bamboozled”, “Rare Essence”, “Purple Blues”, “Enough” and “The Midnight Step Rag”, a jovial piece. Lafayette’s music has wide appeal for both traditional and contemporary jazz enthusiasts.
