O’s Notes: Guitarist Justin Rothberg leads a quintet on 8 new originals and 1 cover for Old Business, his sophomore release. Todd Groves (sax, fl), Hiroyuki Marmtsuura (d), Andy O’Neil (percent, d) and Gil Smuskowitz (b) join Justin to bring their funky fusion groove to life. They have played together for years and that is apparent in the cohesive blends of multiple genres. By the third track “Absent Minded/ Double Jacked / Bosquiat”, they are in full swing and never let up with Groves getting his swagger on “Turkey Spam”. Rothberg’s music is fresh, funky and relevant for the jazz-fusion crowd.
