O’s Notes: Gregory Lewis was listening to Monk’s music in the womb, according to his mom. His dad was a big Monk fan and hence Gregory continued to listen and developed an affinity that stuck! He transferred Monk’s music to the organ and his latest work is Organ Monk Going Home. Monk’s music is different and challenging to play. Over time, more people have come to appreciate it, enjoy it, and even revere it. Greg Lewis brings Monk into 2023 in fine form, embellishing the off-beats and keeping the music fresh. Kevin McNeal (g) and Nasheet Waits (d) are right there with him cooking up a lot of grooves on tunes like “Who Knows”, “Evidence”, and “Two Timer”.
