O’s Notes: This is a fine trio with pianist Steve Allee, drummer Duduka Da Fonseca and leader/bassist Rufus Reid. They perform a set of nine modern jazz tunes mostly new music written Reid or his band members along with a few well-placed covers. Rufus bows his bass to create the mood on “Caress the Thought”. “Ebony” is a swinging tune written by Allee. We also enjoyed the upbeat “Dry Land” and “The Crying Blues”. Reid suggests we listen to the new tunes carefully as there are some gems among them. We agree and applaud the team for continuing to forge new ground.
