O’s Notes: This duo, Steve on soprano sax and Gil Evans playing both acoustic ad electric pianos is appropriately titled Paris Blues. You get the French jazz cafe feeling right from the start with “Reincarnation of a Lovebird”. The use of the electric piano gives warm tones to the music almost like a third musician. Most of the seven tracks were borrowed from the blues pages of the songbooks of Ellington and Mingus. The arrangements are first class giving oxygen to these classics.
