O’s Notes: Contemporary jazz saxophonist and composer Charles Langford leads a talented band including guitarist Wali Ali, drummer, bassists Jimmy Haslip & Avery Sharpe, drummer Jimmy Branly and keyboardist Mark Rassmussen on Powerless. They vacillate between R&B and smooth jazz in a rather pleasing approach. Highlights are “Feel the Light”, “It’s A New Day”, “Top Secret”, the deliberate take on “Close To You” (the lone cover) and “Holding Back” featuring Ali.
