O’s Notes: Bassist, composer Anne Mette Iversen leads a quartet+1 with a different lineup than the Ternion Quartet from last year’s Invincible Nimbus. Now trombonist Peter Dahlgren is the +1. Danny Grissett (p) and Otis Brown III (d) join Iversen in the rhythm section with tenor saxophonist John Ellis driving a lot of the melodies. Racing A Butterfly is a series of fluttering songs, all based on the colorful floating butterflies. Our favorites are “Parallel Flying, Part 2”, “Cluster” and the softer ballad “Reworking of a Butterfly”.
