O’s Notes: This take of Sonny Rollins is from 1982 when he danced on the line of fusion and neobop. Bobby Broom and Bob Cranshaw play electric guitar and bass with Jack DeJohnette on drums. Sonny swings, squawks and keeps a brisk pace through seven selections. It seems like he never takes a breath! We liked “Sonny Side Up” and the soulful blues of “My Little Brown Book”. Reel Life features a different side of Rollins that ads yet another dimension to a living legend.
