O’s Notes: Rented Mule is Don “D.A.” Jones (d), Joel Kunreuther (g), Frank Williams (perc), Todd Horton (t), Jason Mescia (sax) and Dan Greenburg (b). They play a contemporary pop/fusion with all new tunes. Kunreuther wrote all except two of the nine songs. The balance was written by Jones/Greenburg. They open with the driving fusion of “Lolly Pop Bop” followed by the cool syncopated beats of “Double D”. It is time to swing on “Rest For The Weary”. There are hints of Latin beats on “A Walk In The Park” before they wrap up with the funky “Trout Sandwich”. They take us in many directions but and keep alert with the varied approaches.
