O’s Notes: Veteran contemporary jazz guitarist returns to the scene with a smoking new release featuring an all-star cast that includes living legends as well as young lions. Lee has visibility of aspiring talent through his Rhythm Section Competitions. “Punta Del Soul” showcases some of that talent. Hancock’s “Fat Albert’s Rotunda” is among the funkiest of the collection and sure to move up the radio charts. We also enjoyed “July” and “Dolphins Don’t Dance”. Kurt Elling sings “River Man”, one of two vocal tracks that balance the session. Ritenour still has great chops and with help from Grusin, Goldings, East, Rushen, Miller, Corea, Clarke, McBride and Weckl, he does not disappoint.
