O’s Notes: Russian-born composer, pianist Yelena Eckemoff presents Romance of the Moon, a beautiful set of thirteen new selections. All music was composed by Eckemoff, inspired by the poetry of Spanish playwright Federico Garcia Lorca. Riccardo Bertuzzi (g), Lucas Bulgarelli (b), Stefano Bagnoli (d) and featured artist Paolo Fresu (t, flugelhorn) round out the band. The liner notes include all the associated poems, and photos of the band. “Barren Orange Tree” is an engaging tune as are many of the selections. They take on greater meaning if you listen while reading the poems. I think Federico would be pleased with these musical translations.
