O’s Notes: Guitarist, composer/arranger Doug MacDonald doubles the size of his last band for Sextet Session. Doug Webb (t-sax), Aaron Janik (t), Josh Nelson (p), Mike Gurrola (b), and Charles Ruggiero (d) join him for eight selections. Five are originals. MacDonald adds adventure, switching from his tired and true (50 years) hollow bodied, arch top guitar to a solid body Telecaster. He did a fine job driving his new axe! They swing on the opener “Desert Blues” followed by a crisp cover of “Whispering”, with many other cool tunes following. All the musicians catch the spotlight during this swinging set.
