O’s Notes: Tenor saxophonist Patrick Zimmereli leads his quartet in refreshing his unreleased 1992 recording Shores Against Silence. It’s a combination that starts out as free bop then morphs into some cool modern jazz. The band is pianist Kevin Hayes, Larry Grenadier on bass, drummer Tom Rainey, percussionist Satoshi Takeishi (on “Three Dreams of Repose”) with the leader, composer Patrick Zimmereli. We particularly enjoyed “Hephaestus”, “Soft Blues” and “Conceptualysis”.
