O’s Notes: Leo Sidran has a cool contemporary vocal style that reminds of us of Michael Franks. In fact, his last album Cool School was a dedication to Franks’ music. Leo plays drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, vibraphone, sings lead and backing vocals as well as composing most of the music on The Art of Conversation. He sprinkles guest artists into the mix to add variety. There’s a funky groove on “Body and the Brain” and a bouncy beat on “Trying Times” with Larry Goldings (organ) and Amanda Sidran (vocals). Antonio Serrano (harmonica) and Ricky Peterson (organ) appear on “Georgette”, Kat Edmonson sings on the title track and John Ellis (sax) warms up “Song For A Sucker Like You”.
