O’s Notes: The Horizons Jazz Orchestra (HJO) evolved from the Superband created by Dennis Noday (t) and the late Lee Harris (b-sax). Sadly, Harris passed before the release of The Bright Side and the renamed HJO makes its debut in playing the magical arrangements of Harris. Their music is brassy, crisp and cohesive including solos across the ensemble. Trumpeter Dennis Noday soars on “Maria” and the energetic band entertains us with ten vibrant selections that recreate the big band splendor from the 20th century.
