O’s Notes: Both Brian and Charles play guitar, sax piano and a variety of other instruments. Jake Vinsel (b) and Ben Wagley (perc) join them to form the Salamander Ensemble. This is the original soundtrack for The Door. Writing is split equally between Citro and Gorczynski over the eight songs that are interlaced among twelve improvisations. We really liked “Circle One” and “Kent’s Lament 1-3”. These are really cool, funky fusion tunes. Circle Two stretched our imagination. It was sort of like a bug trying to escape a maze. The improvisations range from eclectic free form to neat syncopated riffs like #4. There are also a few ballads. The variety matches the evolving scenes in the movie. We liked the interplay of the leaders and found the soundtrack to be good listening.
