O’s Notes: This set of eleven tunes is the dedicated works of composer Jerome Kern. The melodies are soothing and guitarist Pete Smyser does them justice by placing emphasis in all of the right places. Tom Layton (p), Madison Rast (b) and Dan Monaghan (d) form the rest of the band. Together they make music that is fit for almost any occasion, ready to groove on tracks like “Dearly Beloved” and “A Fine Romance” but mostly relaxers that swing.
