O’s Notes: Canadian bassist Joel Quarrington is an established classical bassist formerly with the London Symphony Orchestra. He changes direction on his latest release, a duo recording with jazz composer, pianist Don Thompson. They play The Music of Don Thompson (4 songs) along with one jazz standard. There is a majestic feeling through all selections, over 45 minutes in total. They conclude with “Quartet 89” expanding the band to a bass quartet with Quarrington, Travis Harrison, Joseph Phillips, and Roberto Occhipinti for ~17 minutes of deep rich, warm music to punctuate the set.
