O’s Notes: Whitney has a warm, soft, blue tone that mates well with the lyrics of the opener “Tenderly”. Ingrid Jensen shadowed her on trumpet to set the stage for The Nature of Love. We could have stopped there and been satisfied but there is much more. Whitney soars on “A Timeless Place” and bounces along on “Long Ago And Far Away” with Matt Clohesy (b) and Jon Wilkan (d) keeping the pace. Our favorite was “The Very Thought Of You”. The CD is well balanced between James and her band leading to a very good session.
