O’s Notes: This is a live jazz recording from July 9, 1965. You can hear the audience chatter, the clacking of dishes and glass and the spirit of jazz in the air. The featured entertainer is blues/jazz singer Jimmy Rushing who belts out tune after tune putting his life into each one. What makes this a special outing is the presence of two of the finest jazz sax men of the time, Zoot Sims and Al Cohn. Listen to them swing on “The Red Door” and “It’s Noteworthy” or shadowing Jimmy on “I Want a Little Girl”. Dave Frishberg does a fine job tickling the ivory on classics live “Everyday I Have the Blues” making this a very enjoyable set.
