O’s Notes: Chick is unquestionably one of the most talented pianists on the jazz scene today. He continues to expand his horizons with different approaches to the music. This is an extension of his last CD, also inspired by L. Ron Hubbard, a science fiction writer. These are all new pieces that are engaging, syncopated, easy to digest, yet packed with complexity for the intimate listener. Corea unites members of his current band with some players from his past, notably Hubert Laws (fl), Airto Moreira (perc) and Steve Gadd (d). The combination of Latin rhythms with African beats and Chick’s usual magic gives us very good results.
