O’s Notes: Conductor, pianist and composer Mike Holober leads The Gotham Jazz Orchestra on a lively session with 17 songs spread over 2 discs. There is a lot to enjoy on this star-studded session. Vocalist Jamile Staevie Ayres graces “Refuge” and “Another Summer” complimented by Holober and Jody Redhage Ferber (cello). We liked “Dirt Lover’s Almanac” featuring John Patitucci (b) and Charles Pillow (a-sax), the high energy of “Tower Pulse” featuring Chris Potter (t-sax) and Nir Felder (g), and “Dear Virginia” featuring Virginia Mayhew (t-sax) and Marvin Stamm (t) with Mike on the keys.
