O’s Notes: Japanese guitarist Nobuki Takamen lights it up on Three Wishes with a swinging set of mostly original tracks. He sites Monk, Hendrix and Van Eps as influences and he is evolving into his own mellow bebop style. “Freddie’s Mood”, “Underground Theme Song” and “Jimi’s Swing” are good examples. Toshiyuki Tanahashi does a fine job on bass as does drummer Naoki Aikawa. They conclude with a contemporary tune, “Homeward Bound” that rounds out the set.
