O’s Notes: Torchsongs is a collection of soft fusion. The core band includes drummer Matt Wilson, Ben Monder (g) and John Lockwood (b) with leader Udden on sax. Bob Brookmeyer (tb) shines with a guest appearance on “Marin” and the brief duet, “Afterthought”. The music is generally played with a relaxed tempo with layered harmonies. We liked the mellow pieces, especially “Eternal Flame” where bassist Lockwood shines.
