O’s Notes: Trumpeter Darren Barrett teams up with vibraphonists Simon Moullier and Warren Wolf for Trumpet Vibes, his latest release. The lower registers are handled by Barrett’s regular partners Alexander Toth (b) and Anthony Toth (d). Darren composed half of the eight selections. We particularly enjoyed “Chiapas” where he bounces between left and right channels for a cool stereo effect. The vibes impart a Caribbean, festive feel to the mix notably on “Everything I Own” and “My Cherie Amour”. Wolf plays on the opener and the finale, both solid encounters outlining another fine effort from Barrett.
