O’s Notes: Uncle John’s Band is a 2-disc set featuring guitarist John Scofield with bassist Vicente Archer and Bill Stewart on drums. They play a soft classic jazz-fusion. It’s tilted a bit towards blues with a dash of funk on “Mask”. Scofield’s guitar melodies are like a singing chorus, and he puts a lot of feelings into every note. “Stairway to the Stars”, “Mo Green” with a fine bass solo by Archer, the title track, and the peaceful “Somewhere” are notable.
