O’s Notes: Flautist Christian Artmann performs a set of original and free compositions. The program is mild free fusion that never strays too far from an identifiable structure. Band members are Jeff Hirshfield (d), Johannes Weidenmueller (b), Rubens Salles (p), Elena McEntire (shadowing vocals) and Luiz Claudio (perc). We enjoyed the pulse of “Kafka” and the bouncy bossa nova on “Beb – Vale de Ribeira”. There are also several ballads notably “Uneasy Dreams” and his take on Ellington: “On A Sentimental Flute”. McEntire is most prominent on “Aria De Opereta” an introspective piece with a fine bass solo by Weidenmueller. They conclude with “Easy Dreams” leaving us at peace.
