O’s Notes: Vocalist Ayelet Rose Gottlieb places herself among the musicians as a true instrument. She composed most of the music and lyrics and strays from the middle of the road frequently with her interpretations. There is strong accompaniment from Avishai Cohen (t), Ed Schuller (b), Anat Fort (p), Loren Stillman (sax) and the late Take Toriyama (d). These musicians are all formidable on their own and fully supportive of Gottlieb here. We liked the interplay on “Wrong Rain” and her cover of “The Nearness of You”. This is an album that takes some getting use to but Gottlieb’s talent wins us over!
