O’s Notes: Pianist and composer Manuel Valera continues to release new music at a blistering pace with Urban Landscape. Nir Felder shines on guitar with saxophonist John Ellis, bassist John Benitez and E. J. Strickland playing drums on 7 selections. They are Groove Square. Guest Jeff “Tain” Watts infuses a serious dose of funk into “Coming Down”, a hint of the predominant funky fusion groove elsewhere. Watts shows up again on two additional selections, as does Gregoire Maret (harmonica). Valeria’s music is outstanding in yet another configuration. Keep it coming!
