O’s Notes: Christian takes a side step to his normal straight-ahead jazz to add a dose of funk. To help make the point he dons an electric bass for several tracks. It starts up on “Technicolor Nightmare”, cooks on “The Wizard of Montara”. By no means is this elevator music; it’s more fusion but closer to the contemporary side of the ruler. McBride wrote all of the songs and his steps into fresh music make this an enjoyable set.
