O’s Notes: Oran plays clarinet and sax. He also teaches music to children. His dialog with Charenee Wade on “High Low” sets the stage for a great set. A strong cast that includes drummer Jason Marsalis and Curtis Fowlkes (tb) join him. Etkin engages with the students to make memorable educational experiences. Wake Up Clarinet! is a sampling of his work. Timbalooloo is the name of his class and also an instrument created by one of his students with a unique personal sound. There is a lot of dialog (teaching) especially on the introductions supporting the message and the music. We like Etkin’s program and our young kids did as well.
