O’s Notes: Pianist Orrin Evans leads his Captain Black Big Band with a unique, urban, communal sound into their fifth album, Walk a Mile in My Shoe. The diversity among musicians leads to a rich variety in sounds including vocals and rich instrumentation. We enjoyed “Overjoyed” & “Blues In The Night” with special guest vocalist Lisa Fischer, “All That I Am” & “Save The Children” featuring Bilal on the mic, and the harmonized horns on “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”. Paul Jost also sings a fine rendition of “If” & “Dislocation Blues” as does Joanna Pascale on “Sunday in New York”.
