O’s Notes: Matt brings the sound of his mandolin to the jazz scene. The set starts with a bluegrass feel on the opener moving to a Latin bend on “Troubled Sleep” and then to a cool funky arrangement of “Caravan” and even funkier “Exfoliator”. The funky theme prevails during a session that also includes some pop, rock fusion. Matt and guitarist Gawain Mathews trade leads in from of Sam Bevan’s syncopated bass lines. This turns out to be contagiously cool and more engaging with each track. Walking on the Moon is different but very pleasurable.
