O’s Notes: Way Back Home“is a live performance recorded at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY June 26, 2015. This is drummer Steve Gadd’s alma mater. Bassist Jimmy Johnson, Larry Goldings on keys, Michael Landau on guitar and Walt Fowler on flugelhorn, join him. Each of these guys contributes originals to the set along with a couple of freshly arranged jazz-fusion classics notably “Them Changes” with a rousing solo by Gadd. These are all well-established, veteran musicians who have recorded albums together along with live performances. The familiarity shows in their levels of respect. There’s also a DVD that further embellishes the solo performances and a DVD with interviews.
