O’s Notes: Michael has a hit with Wide Angels. The music is all new and mostly Brecker originals. He lays edgy sax leads on top of a well orchestrated backdrop. His band of fourteen musicians includes a full brass and string compliment along with a tight rhythm section. Bassist John Patitucci, Robin Eubanks (tb) and Eric Friedlamder (cello) are among the crew. It is somewhat unusual grouping for a fusion session but it works well with songs like “Night Jessamine”, “Cool Day in Hell” and “Modus Operandy” that really swing.
