O’s Notes: Damian is a Vegas show style crooner performing with a strong band. That band includes trumpeter Brian Lynch and the Birdland Brass horn section. Brian’s warm tone complements Damian and adds dimension to the recording on “Darn That Dream”, “It Might As Well Be Spring” and several others. Damian has a strong voice but he wisely shares the stage with his musicians. It gives some of these overworked standards new life. Examples are “Skylark” spotlighting guitarist Nick Russo and “Once I Loved” featuring pianist Cecilia Coleman. The program is a dozen standards arranged and produced by Ron Aprea (sax, fl, cl). It is a good session.
