O’s Notes: Trumpeter Gabriel Alegría celebrates the ten-year anniversary of his sextet with the release of 10. It is truly a celebration with twenty musicians deployed on the stage. Guest artists include Arturo O’Farrill (p), Russell Ferrante (keyboards), Ron Carter (b) and Shirazette Tinnin (d). The music is all-new arrangements split equally between Peruvian and American jazz standards. There’s an Earthy feel on “Taita Guaranguito”, one of several definitive selections that makes this session unique.
