O’s Notes: 3 For The Road is minimalist improvisation featuring vocalist Jay Clayton with excellent work on piano by the late Fritz Pauer and trombonist Ed Neumeister. The trio met while teaching at the University of the Performing Arts in Graz, Austria. They also include a couple of standards notably “Two For The Road”. Clayton offers some fleeting, funky scatting on “Rhythm Waltz” the places her voice in the band as another instrument on “Badadat” as she trades phrases with Ed and Fritz. The recording was made in January 2001 & June 2002, released in 2020, and is dedicated to the memory of Pauer.
