O’s Notes: 3 Bop describes the trio: Donald Dean (d), Henry Franklin (b) and leader Phil Wright (p). It also describes their dedication to bebop, the jazz form employed on these ten songs. “Spanish Eyes” and Norwegian Eyes” both feature Henry soloing on bass while “Shadow Dance” serves as the platform for one of Dean’s best solos. Franklin gets into the action too on several tunes but our favorite is “Broadway”. These veterans really get into the music and deliver a strong performance both individually and as a unit.
